Heinz Australia celebrates 140 years with Baked Beans
Heinz Australia has developed a Heinz Baked Beans cake to celebrate the 140th anniversary of one of the biggest food manufacturing companies in the world.
The company's founder, Mr Henry John Heinz, officially launched the company in the United States in November 1869. From its humble beginnings selling homemade products such as horseradish, mustard and pickles in Pennsylvania, Heinz has grown to become one of the world’s leading producers of healthy, convenient foods for any occasion.
The rich history of Heinz Australia began in 1934, with the purchase of an ex-piano factory on 1 August. This site, located in Melbourne's inner city at Bendigo Street in Richmond, was soon converted to a progressive manufacturing site.
The first canned products rolled off the production line at the Richmond factory on 1 October 1935. These products were, of course, Baked Beans in tomato sauce. Now, as we celebrate our 140th year of operations, it seems only fitting that our celebrations feature the Heinz Baked Beans that have been much-loved by generations of Australians.
This was the inspiration behind the "Heinz Celebration Cake", a decadent sweet sensation that uses pureed Heinz Baked Beans in Tomato Sauce. Created by the team in the Heinz Test Kitchen at Heinz’s Melbourne office, it's a surprising combination that tastes great!
"Baked Beans are a great way to boost your daily intake of fibre, iron, protein and folate and are very low in fat," explains Heather Ferguson, Heinz Corporate Nutritionist.
"While you may not automatically think to put Heinz Baked Beans in a cake, they give a wonderful texture and moistness to the cake and combine beautifully with the rich chocolate cream icing and the delicate hint of orange to make a delicious treat for the whole family," adds Leanne Bennett-Jones, Food Communications and Heinz Test Kitchen Manager.
